Ty Cook Resigns Guilford College Softball Post
Greensboro, N.C. (12/9/06) -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced the resignation of head softball coach Ty Cook Monday. He said a search for her replacement is underway. The Quakers are scheduled to open their sixth fastpitch softball season Feb. 17 against Christopher Newport University.
Cook compiled a 34-82 record in three seasons with the Quakers. Guilford went 9-27 in 2004, Cook's first season, and reached the six-team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament the following year with an 8-8 league record. Guilford set the school record for wins in a season with a 16-24 overall mark and had its initial First Team All-ODAC selection in 2005. The Quakers went 9-31 in 2006 and shared seventh place in the conference with a 5-13 record.
Cook came to Guilford in June, 2003 after serving as the head coach at Bluffton College from 1999-2003. In eight seasons, her career coaching record is 121-178-1.
Guilford restored softball to its varsity lineup in 2003 following a 12-year hiatus. The Quakers sponsored a slow-pitch team from 1980-1989 before moving to fastpitch in 1990. Guilford did not offer softball as a varsity sport after the 1990 campaign.
