Softball Release (2006) - Bryant Named Assistant Softball Coach - Guilford College

  • BRYANT NAMED ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH AT GUILFORD COLLEGE

 

      Greensboro, NC (2/2/06) -- Rashida Bryant joined Guilford College's athletics staff Thursday as an assistant softball coach under third-year head coach Ty Cook.

 

Bryant received a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in 2000. After a stellar career at Tuscola High School, the Waynesville, NC, native received a softball scholarship, played four years for the Division I Spartans and earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll. A career .264 hitter, Bryant saw time at third base, designated hitter and outfield during her tenure. She started all 127 games of her final two seasons and ranks eighth among the Spartans' career stolen base leaders (28). Off the field, Bryant served as a representative to UNCG's Student Advisory Committee for Intercollegiate Athletics (SACIA) and attended the National Leadership Conference for Intercollegiate Athletics.

 

      In addition to her duties with the Quakers, Bryant works at the Bryan Family YMCA in Greensboro as an internship/sports coverage assistant. She helps manage the YMCA's various sports leagues, supervises practices, and assists with the departmental budget.

 

      While pursuing a master's degree in parks and recreation management at UNCG, Bryant worked as a program assistant and graduate assistant in the school's Department of Campus Recreation. She trained and supervised student staff, maintained equipment, and managed on-campus facility reservations. Bryant received her master's degree in 2003.

 

      The Quakers return seven letter winners from last year's club. Guilford opens the 2006 season February 18 against Peace.
