  • DUNNIGAN WINS WEEKLY SOFTBALL PRIZE

GREENSBORO, NC (3/29/05) -- Guilford College freshman Christi Dunnigan received the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Softball Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending March 20.  Dunnigan joins teammate Jennifer Franklin as Guilford recipients of an ODAC weekly softball prize in 2005.

Dunnigan helped the Quakers to a 3-1 week with a pair of complete-game victories over ODAC rivals and a healthy .462 average at the plate. She scattered six hits, fanned four and yielded one earned run in Guilford's 4-3 win over Virginia Wesleyan Mar. 19. She went one-for-three at the plate in the second game against the Marlins. The following day, Dunnigan struck out a career-high nine batters and held Randolph-Macon to three hits in a 4-0 Quakers' victory. She helped her cause at the plate with two hits, including a double, and a run scored. Dunnigan, who plays third base when not pitching, went three-for-four with a double, a RBI and a run scored in the nightcap.

Dunnigan has been the Quakers' top pitcher this year with a 6-6 record and a 2.09 earned run average. Her 55 strikeouts in 70.1 innings stand second on Guilford's single-season strikeouts list, four shy of Megan Stupple's '90 school record. She ranks fourth among the Quakers' regulars with a .269 batting average and has four doubles and six runs batted in.

Coach Ty Cook's Quakers (7-11, 3-1 ODAC) host Chowan March 31 at 2:00 p.m. The contest was originally scheduled for March 17, but postponed due to rain.
