Softball Release - Meredith - Split - Guilford College

      GREENSBORO, NC (3/2/05) -- Guilford and Meredith split a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday on Guilford's Haworth Field. The Quakers won the opener, 3-2. The Angels rallied to win the nightcap, 8-6, for their first win of the year.

      Jennifer Franklin had three hits and Christi Dunnigan tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the opener. Dunnigan, who fanned five, also doubled and scored for the Quakers. Carla Cain plated the game-winning run with a single in the third inning.

      Meredith prevented the sweep with a six-run rally in the sixth inning that erased a 5-1 deficit. The Angels' (1-4) first eight batters reached base in the sixth inning. Laurie Mulqueeny and Jill Nester both had two runs batted in for Meredith. Lindsay Sutton had three hits and went the distance on the mound for her first win of the year.

      Guilford hosts Christopher Newport Thursday (3/3) at 1:30 p.m.
