Lynchburg, VA (04/07/04) -- Junior Christy Mays produced five hits and drove in four runs on the day as the Lynchburg College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Wednesday over Guilford College, 8-0 and 17-0 (both in five innings).
Mays went 3-3 with a double and two RBI in the opener, as the Hornets scored four runs in the second and broke it open with three in the fourth. Danielle DiFranco was 2-3 with a run and an RBI, while Courtney Ferguson drove in two runs. Jen Overstreet threw a complete-game two hitter for the win, walking none and striking out five Quakers.
Lynchburg broke the second game open early, scoring four runs each in the first
and second frames, batting around the order each inning. Caroline
Cubbage was 3-4 with a home run, three runs and six RBI, while Lauren
Lancaster also had three hits. Mays was 2-3 with three runs scored
and two RBI, while Julie Beyer and Laura Gonder each had two hits
and combined to score five runs. Samantha
Spradlin and Brandie Brown each drove in two runs. Overstreet again
posted the win, working four innings of three-hit ball. Jennifer
Franklin doubled for Guilford (8-22/4-10 ODAC).
