THREE QUAKERS EARN ALL-ODAC RECOGNITION
Greensboro, NC (04/26/04) -- Juniors Ashley Cooke (Gibsonville, NC/Eastern Guilford) and Jennifer Franklin (Greensboro, NC/Southern Guilford) were named to the 2004 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Second Team and sophomore Hawi Hall (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) was an honorable mention selection, the league announced Monday.
Cooke,
a 5-7 catcher, led the Quakers in batting average (.345), doubles (9), home runs
(5), runs batted in (RBI) (26), slugging percentage (.564), and total bases
(62). She is tied for the league lead in home runs and ranks eighth in slugging
percentage, RBI and total bases. Cooke had 10 multi-hit games, including
a performance in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Peace in which she
batted four-for-four with a double and a homer. She collected four RBI and
scored a run in the 8-5 Guilford victory.
Franklin,
a 5-4 center fielder, served as the Quakers' lead-off hitter for much of the
season. She tied with Cooke for the team lead in hits (38) and owned the
outright lead in runs (19) and triples (3). Franklin ranked second on the
club in doubles (6), RBI (14), total bases (53) and slugging percentage (.449).
She was third on the team in batting average (.322) and on-base percentage
(.350). Franklin ranks fourth in the ODAC in triples. She had several
outstanding performances, one of which came against ODAC-rival Randolph-Macon
Woman's College in the second game of a doubleheader in which she went
two-for-four with a triple and a home run. Franklin added three RBI and
three runs in the Quakers' victory.
Hall,
a 5-5 first baseman, started the first 25 games of the season, but missed the
final 11 due to injury. She led the team in on-base percentage (.400) and placed
second in batting average (.328). She was very consistent, getting hits in 17 of
25 games. In the nightcap of a doubleheader against Greensboro, Hall went
two-for-four with an RBI in the Quakers' loss.
Coach Ty Cook's Quakers finished with a 9-27 record, 4-12 in the ODAC, in the team's second year since returning as a varsity sport. Fourteen letter winners from this year's squad, including Cooke, Franklin, and Hall, are expected to return in 2005.
