Softball - Guilford College

Guilford's Kelly Hale earned ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District III recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) May 8. Hale led Guilford with a school-record .431 batting average and belted a school-record nine homers this year. She also is a dean's list double major in psychology and health sciences. Hale and classmate Kelly Guarnieri both received Second Team All-Atlantic Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the organization announced May 6. NFCA members nominated and selected three teams of 15 students from each of the group's eight NCAA Division III regions. Click here for the full release.
Guilford College's Dennis Shores won the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Coach of the Year Award and three Quakers' students were honored May 2 according a vote of the league's head softball coaches. Hale became Guilford's second First Team All-ODAC selection in school history, junior shortstop Amber Stapler was a second-team all-league pick and Guarnieri earned honorable mention laurels for the third straight season. Guilford ends its season with a 20-21-1 record, a 10-win improvement from last year and the most wins in school history.
