GUILFORD BASKETBALL SCHEDULES SET FOR 2004-05
Greensboro, NC (10/27/04) -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced Guilford's 2004-05 men's and women's basketball schedules Wednesday. Both Quakers' teams will be in the midst of growing pains. The men return only four letter winners from the 2003-04 squad that went 15-11 and set a school record with an 11-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) mark. The women return just three letter winners from last year's squad that went 17-9 (14-6 ODAC).
Head coach Tom Palombo's men's squad opens the season November 19 against Lincoln (PA), as part of the Impressions Plus Tournament in Winchester, VA. The slate also includes the annual meeting with cross-town rival Greensboro November 23 at the Greensboro Coliseum, and a December 16 match against Division I UNC Greensboro. The Quakers open their ODAC schedule December 1 against Emory and Henry at 3:00 p.m., which is also their home opener. A January 8 home date with league-rival Randolph-Macon and a February 9 home match with defending ODAC Tournament champion Hampden-Sydney highlight the league slate.
Coach Stephanie Flamini begins her second season at the helm November 7 with a scrimmage against Bennett at 3:00 p.m. A schedule highlight includes a meeting with Greensboro November 23 in the Greensboro Coliseum. Guilford will also participate in the Ferrum Tip Off Tournament November 19-20 at Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA. The league schedule includes a February 6 home contest with defending ODAC Tournament champion Eastern Mennonite. Christopher Newport visits January 5, and is one of five USA South Athletic Conference teams on Guilford's schedule. The Captains played in the 2003 NCAA Division III playoffs. The Quakers also face Meredith, a participant in the 2001 and 2003 NCAA Tournaments, November 29.
