Greensboro, NC -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced the appointment of two assistant coaches to the Quakers' staff Monday. Katie Lang joins the school as an assistant athletic trainer and assistant softball coach while Loizos Loizou serves as the new assistant volleyball coach.

Lang will assist first-year head softball coach Ty Cook and veteran athletic trainer Mary Broos. She graduated from the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and recreation, and earned her master's degree in health, physical education, and recreation from the University of Nebraska at Omaha last May. At USC-Spartanburg she played on the softball team and earned a spot on the Academic All-Peach Belt Athletic Conference teams in 1999 and 2000. Lang also played softball at Edison (FL) Community College and North Florida Community College. While at Nebraska, she served as the student athletic trainer for the women's basketball team and worked with the women's track and field squad. She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Loizou, who will assist first-year head coach Glenda Dellinger, played semiprofessional volleyball in his native Cyprus for eight years before moving to North Carolina. He played for Cyprus' Junior National team as a setter in 1991-92 and represented his country in the 1992 European Volleyball Championships. He started coaching in North Carolina as an assistant coach at Hoggard High School in Wilmington where he helped the team to second place in the 1997 state 4-A playoffs. Loizou earned his bachelor's degree from UNC Wilmington in 1999 and served as the Seahawks' assistant volleyball coach in 1998. He also has college coaching experience as an assistant at Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro and served as head coach at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem in 2002. Loizou has also coached Junior Olympic teams in Greensboro and Wilmington.
