GUILFORD BASKETBALL SCHEDULES SET FOR 2003-04
Greensboro, NC -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced Guilford's men's and women's basketball schedules for the 2003-04 season Wednesday. Both Quakers' teams have first-year head coaches with many returning letter winners.
Head coach Tom Palombo's men's squad opens the season November 21 against Catholic, the 2001 NCAA Division III national champion, in a four-team tournament hosted by perennial power Franklin & Marshall. The slate also includes a Thanksgiving-weekend trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, for games with North Central (IL) and Goucher, and the annual meeting with cross-town rival Greensboro College December 1 in the Greensboro Coliseum. Guilford opens its home and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)) schedules December 3 against Washington and Lee at 7:00 pm. The Quakers' conference schedule also contains two meetings with defending league champion Randolph-Macon and 2003 national semifinalist Hampden-Sydney. Palombo has 11 returning letter winners, including four starters, back from last year's 12-14 team (8-10 ODAC).
Coach Stephanie Flamini begins her Guilford tenure November 21 against Ohio Wesleyan in a challenging tournament hosted by Marymount (VA). The three-day, eight-team affair features three 2003 NCAA Tournament participants. The Quakers also play Greensboro in the Greensboro Coliseum December 1 and a full slate of 20 ODAC contests. Randolph-Macon defeated Guilford in the 2003 ODAC Tournament semifinals, won the event and reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Flamini has 13 letter winners back from last year's 20-7 club (16-4 ODAC) that won the ODAC regular-season title.
