FALL 2008 FACILITY UPDATES
Due to generous gifts to Guilford College and the Quaker Club, the athletic department is pleased to have new and upgraded facilities on campus this fall. Armfield Athletic Center and McBane Field underwent a small renovation, while a new tennis center and building are currently in construction. None of these projects would have been accomplished without the funds raised by the Quaker Club.
Armfield Athletic Center and McBane Field share a new brick-paved plaza. The stadium recieved a new entrance gate at the north end of the field, while McBane Field now has terraced seating behind the backstop. Top: Before and after shots of Armfield Plaza. Bottom: Detailed photos of the new terraced seating on McBane Field and north entrance gate for Armfield Athletic Center. |

Dalton L. “Mac” McMichael Jr. and his wife, Susan, made a gift of over $450,000 to Guilford College to support a scholarship fund in memory of Mac’s mother, Dorothy Ragsdale McMichael, and be used toward construction of new six-court tennis center at the college. Construction of the Dorothy Ragsdale McMichael ’37 Centennial Class Tennis Courts is underway on campus along with a new team changing area and restroom facility. The McMichael Tennis Center will be completed for the Men's and Women's 2009 Spring Tennis Seasons. |

Quaker Club
The Quaker Club was established by Herb Appenzeller in 1956 to promote, encourage and support Guilford College's 16 athletic teams. The money donated by the club's members supplements the athletic budget by underwriting programs, helping to buy equipment and other various needs teams may have. One of the biggest accomplishments by the Quaker Club was the Super Sponsor Program in 1978 which raised funds to build the Ragan-Brown Field House, which is still in use today. Guilford is an NCAA Division III member that competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Quaker Club has recently had a membership base of over 300. While this membership number is great, we know we can be bigger and better. We are always looking for more boosters so whether you are a Guilford alumnus or a friend of the program, please consider becoming a member of the Quaker Club. For more information about gift-in-kind, matching gifts, estate planning or stock gifts contact the Guilford Athletic Department at (336) 316-2190.
