WASHINGTON AND LEE SWEEPS ODAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
GREENSBORO, NC (10/29/05) -- Washington and Lee's men's and women's cross country teams swept the team competitions in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships at Hagan Stone Park, hosted by Guilford College Saturday, October 29.
In the men's competition, Washington and Lee clinched the team title with a score of 26, with all seven scorers finishing in the top 22 runners, including three of the top five finishers. Nathan Johnson led the way with a time of 26:05 on the eight-kilometer course. It was the second straight ODAC Championship individual title for Johnson, who ran 28:16:56 in 2004. The Quakers finished eight out of nine teams with 233 points. Sophomore Kevin Smith posted Guilford's best time coming in at 30:31.7.
In the women's competition, Washington and Lee clinched the team title with a score of 25. Like the men, all seven scorers finished in the top 22 runners, and the Generals claimed the top two spots. Jackie Burns was the individual champion with a time of 23:47.2, 21 seconds faster than teammate Lindsay Erickson, who finished second. The Guilford women's team finished seventh out of eight squads with 208 points. Junior Laurie Henninger once again led the Quakers posting a time of 28:07.9.

Washington and Lee coaches also swept Coach of the Year honors, with John Tucker winning the men's award and Kris Hoey claiming the women's. Women's individual winner Jackie Burns took home Freshman Runner of the Year, while Lynchburg College's Ricky Flynn was a unanimous choice for the men's award.
The ODAC also presented Scholar Athlete Awards to Washington and Lee's Nathan Johnson and Elizabeth Twentyman. Johnson, a senior who also won the award in 2004, has a 3.731 GPA in Math and Economics. Twentyman, a senior and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, has a 3.967 GPA in Mathematics.
The top 14 runners in both the men's and women's races were awarded 'All-ODAC' Honors at the conclusion of the ODAC Championships.
