GUILFORD COMPETES IN OLD NORTH STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Greensboro, NC (10/15/05) -- UNC-Pembroke's men's and women's cross
country teams swept the team competitions in the Old North State Cross Country
Championships at Hagan Stone Park
hosted by Guilford College in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, October 15.
In the men's competition, UNC-Pembroke clinched
the team title with a score of 20, with all five scorers finishing in the top
12 runners. Leading the way for the Braves was freshman Stanleyh Maritim who
paced the team victory in a time of 27:40.2 on the 8-kilometer
course. The individual men's champion was Eric Mack running unattached
from North Carolina State University finishing with a time of 26:02.2. The
Quakers finished third out of four teams with 66 points. Sophomore
Kevin Smith posted Guilford's best time coming in at 31:06.9.
On the women's side, the UNC-Pembroke also
took the victory with a team score of 22. Junior Katerina Matousova scored
the Braves top time finishing the six-kilometer course in a time of 25:25.5.
North Carolina State University's Ann Wheatley, also running unattached, claimed
the women's individual victory
in a time of 23:09.3. The Guilford women's team finished fourth out of
eight squads with 95 points. Junior Laurie Henninger once again led
the Quakers posting a time of 28:09.2.
The top runners in both the men's and women's races were awarded 'All-State' Honors after Old North State Collegiate Cross Country Championships by virtue of their Top 10 finish.

Guilford's cross country teams will have next week off before hosting the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference Championships on October 29 at Hagan Stone Park.
The men's race will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the women's race immediately
following at 11:00 a.m.
