CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM COMPETES IN COVERED BRIDGE OPEN
BOONE, N.C. (9/2/05) -- Guilford College's men's and women's cross
country teams saw its first action of the season as the Quakers traveled to the Covered Bridge Open
hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. on Saturday, September 2.
Both the Guilford men's and women's squads finished ninth out of nine squads.
In the men's competition, Florida State clinched
the team title with a score of 29, with all five scorers finishing in the top
20. Leading the way for the Seminoles was senior Andrew Lemoncello who
paced his way to an individual victory in a time of 25:41.62 on the 8-kilometer
course.
Junior Jeremy Bante
had the Quakers' best finish (76th) with a time of 31:52.2 over the
eight-kilometer course.
On the women's side, the Florida State Seminoles
took the victory with a score of 38. Laura Bowerman claimed individual victory
in a time of 18:17.44. Junior Laurie Henninger paced the Quakers
with a tie of 25:52.74 over the five-kilometer course. She placed 93rd in
the individual field.
Guilford returns to action September 10 at
the Washington and Lee Invitational in Lexington, VA. The women's race
starts at 10:30 a.m. The men's race starts at 11:15 a.m.
