Men's Soccer Team Tops Wesley, 3-1
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. (9/13/09) -- Freddy Gomez broke a 1-1 tie with a second-half
goal and lifted Guilford College to a 3-1 men's soccer victory over
Wesley College Sunday. The contest ended Guilford's play in the
Hampden-Sydney College Tiger Classic with a 1-1 record.
Ronnie Castellanos gave the Quakers (3-2-1) a 1-0 halftime lead, but
Wesley's Frank Buffa knotted the score early in the second half.
Gomez' unassisted tally, his team-leading fourth of the season, came
in the 61st minute. Jeff Floyd added his fourth goal of the year with
an insurance score in the 82nd minute off a Gomez assist.
The Quakers are back in action Wednesday (9/16) against visiting
Ferrum College at 7:00 p.m.
