Emory Slips Past Guilford, 2-1, in Men's Soccer
GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/20/09) -- Kyle O'Brien scored in the 67th minute to break a 1-1
tie and send visiting Emory University to a 2-1 men's soccer victory over
Guilford College Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles, rated eighth in this week's NSCAA/adidas South Region Rankings,
improve to 5-1 with the win. Guilford drops to 5-3-1 with its first loss in
four outings.
Emory took the lead in the fifth minute when O'Brien set up Zach Samuels'
goal. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
The Quakers tied the game in the 62nd minute when Jordan Alexander found
Tamer El-Amoor for the equalizer. O'Brien netted the go-ahead goal just
over five minutes later and Emory kept the Quakers off the board for the
rest of the match.
Trenton Spindler made two saves in goal for Emory, which outshot the
Quakers' 14-7. Jonathan Shine made six stops in his first college start.
Guilford returns to action Wednesday (9/23) at Methodist University at 4:00
p.m.
