Guilford Trio Lands ODAC Men's Soccer Honors

Greensboro, N.C. (11/18/08) -- Guilford College senior Scott Meguid earned Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors Tuesday according to a vote of the league's head coaches. The announcement marks Meguid's third straight all-conference commendation. Classmate Tim Berke garnered honorable mention All-ODAC laurels and fellow senior Pete Deng represented Guilford on the league's Sportsmanship Team.

Meguid, a 5-8, 155-pound forward, played in all 17 of Guilford's games this year with 16 starts. the team captain ranked second on the team in scoring with seven points and led the Quakers with three assists. He scored two goals in 2008, which helped his team to wins over Randolph-Macon College and Averett University. A two-time all-region and First Team All-ODAC pick, Meguid concluded his 67-match Guilford career ranked among the school's all-time leaders in several categories. He stands third in points (63), seventh in goals (23), and second in assists (17).

A 6-6, 180-pound defender, Berke started all 17 matches on the Quakers' back line. He scored his lone goal of the season at Bridgewater College and contributed to Guilford's three shutouts. The three-year starter finished his career with two goals and an assist for five points in 53 matches.

Deng, a 6-0, 165-pound defender, started in 13 of his 15 appearances this season. He scored his lone points Sept. 20 against league-rival Randolph College and also contributed to the Quakers' three shutouts. A three-year starter, Deng totaled three goals and an assist in 55 career matches.

The senior trio helped third-year head coach Jeff Bateson's Quakers to a 4-12-1 overall record (3-6-1 ODAC). Bateson expects as many as 17 letter winners back in 2009.
