Guilford's Scott Meguid Named ODAC Player of the Week

Scott MeguidGreensboro, N.C. (10/15/07) -- Guilford College junior Scott Meguid earned his second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week Award Monday. He also picked up the weekly Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented weekly by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Guilford students have received the ODAC's weekly soccer prizes three times this year.

A 5-9, 145-pound forward, Meguid led the Quakers in a 1-1 week with seven points on three goals and an assist. He sparked Guilford’s 4-3 comeback win over 25th-ranked Greensboro College Oct. 10 with two goals in the final 9:34, including the game-winner with 5:22 left. Meguid also had an assist in the match. In the Quakers' 2-1 ODAC setback at Lynchburg College Oct. 13, he scored his eighth goal of the year and moved into fifth place on Guilford’s career points (56) chart.

With 20 points on eight goals and a team-high four assists in 14 contests, Meguid ranks second on the team in scoring and goals. He stands fifth among Guilford's career assists leaders with 14 and eighth in school history with 21 goals in 46 matches. Meguid placed among the top-10 ODAC leaders in points and assists per game through matches of Oct. 10.

Second-year head coach Jeff Bateson's Quakers have matched their 2006 win total with a 5-9-1 record with three regular-season matches remaining. With a 2-4-1 league record, Guilford is in the hunt for one of eight ODAC Tournament berths. The Quakers player their final nonconference match of the season Tuesday (Oct. 16) against nationally ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include canned food drives and assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and New Garden Friends School.
