Guilford's Scott Meguid Earns Regional Soccer Honors

Scott MeguidGreensboro, N.C. (1/4/08) -- Guilford College junior Scott Meguid earned a spot on the Third Team D3kicks.com All-South squad Friday. Meguid also received all-region recognition in 2006 from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Meguid, a 5-9, 145-pound midfielder, earned First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honors after scoring 20 points in 18 matches last fall. A two-time ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week, he ranked seventh among the league's points-per-game leaders (1.11) and second on the team with eight goals and four assists. His eight goals stood fifth in the conference. Meguid scored twice and added an assist for a career-best five points in the Quakers' upset of nationally ranked Greensboro College Oct. 10. He also scored twice against Methodist College Sept. 11 and had two assists in a Sept. 5 win at Chowan University.

Meguid ranks sixth in Guilford history with 56 career points, ninth with 21 career goals and fifth with 14 career assists. The two-time First Team All-ODAC pick has five multiple-goal matches in 50 career appearances.

Second-year head coach Jeff Bateson led the Quakers to a 5-13-1 record, 2-6-1 in the ODAC. Guilford returned to the ODAC Tournament in 2007, losing in overtime, 2-1, to Virginia Wesleyan College. Bateson expects 19 letter winners back in 2008, including Meguid.
