Guilford College Trio Earns All-ODAC Soccer Honors

Greensboro, N.C. (11/9/07) -- Guilford College's Scott Meguid earned First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer laurels Friday according to a vote of the league's head coaches. Teammates Joe Rigert and Robbie Fisher were also recognized, receiving Second Team and honorable mention plaudits, respectively.

A 5-9 midfielder, Meguid played 18 games, starting 15, for the Quakers. He scored eight goals and five assists for 21 points, which ranks second on the team and fifth in the ODAC. His best game was against Greensboro College (Oct. 10) where he scored two goals and had one assist for five points in the Quakers' upset of the nationally ranked Pride. The junior ranks sixth in school history with 56 career points, ninth with 21 career goals and fifth with 14 career assists.

Rigert, a 6-0 forward, started all 19 games for the Quakers. He scored a team-high 10 goals and tallied two assists for 22 points, which also led the squad. The junior had 21 shots on goal and had a .303 shooting percentage. He ranks among the ODAC leaders in goals per game (fourth), game-winning goals (fifth) and points per game (seventh). His best game was against Chowan University (Sept. 5), when he set a school record with nine points and tied the Guilford mark with four goals. Through 53 career matches, Rigert has 51 career points, 20 career goals and 11 career assists, which rank eighth, 10th and ninth in school history, respectively. He has scored at least two goals in six matches, including two this year.

A 6-foot midfielder, Fisher started 16 games for the Quakers. He scored his lone goal against Emory University (Sept. 9) and tallied two points. The junior had nine shots on goal, which ranked fourth for the Quakers.

Second-year head coach Jeff Bateson led the Quakers to a 5-13-1 record, 2-6-1 in the ODAC. Guilford returned to the ODAC Tournament this year, losing in overtime, 2-1, to Virginia Wesleyan. Bateson expects 19 letter winners back in 2008, including Meguid, Rigert and Fisher.
