Men's Soccer Preseason Poll
- GUILFORD PICKED TENTH IN MEN'S SOCCER POLL
Greensboro, NC (8/22/06) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer coaches picked Guilford College 10th in the league's preseason poll Tuesday. Virginia Wesleyan, the defending ODAC champion, topped the 10-team poll with eight first-place votes.
New head coach Jeff Bateson leads a young team that features 16 returning letter winners, but only two seniors. Senior Zane Campbell, a three-year starter in goal, will be asked to provide stability in the back. Sophomore forward Joe Rigert scored 14 points on five goals and four assists as a rookie and is Guilford's top returning scorer.
The Quakers scrimmage Cape Fear Community College this Sunday (Aug. 27). The first regular-season game is Sept. 2 versus Tennessee Wesleyan at the Nike Kickoff Classic in Maryville, Tenn. The Quakers open their home schedule Sept. 16 at 3:00 p.m. against Virginia Wesleyan at Haworth Field.
