Guilford Men's Soccer Students Honored
Greensboro, N.C. (11/15/06) -- Guilford College's Scott Meguid earned First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer laurels according to a vote of the league's head men's soccer coaches. Teammate Zane Campbell received honorable mention when the league office released the all-star teams Wednesday afternoon.
Meguid, a sophomore forward, made 16 starts in the finest season of his career and becomes Guilford's 11th First Team All-ODAC pick. He led the Quakers with a career-high 24 points on 10 goals and four assists, both team highs. Meguid ranks second among ODAC goals and points per game leaders and fifth in assists per match. He scored a career-high five points with a goal and school record-tying three assists in the Quakers' 5-0 win over Emory & Henry October 24. Meguid earned a spot on the Shellenberger Classic All-Tournament Team in September after netting two goals in Guilford's victories over Ferrum and NCAA Division II Mountain State. He enters his junior campaign ranked eighth on Guilford's career assists chart with 10 helpers in 32 matches.
Campbell, a 6-3 goalkeeper, played every minute of the Quakers' 16 matches. The team captain made 83 saves during the season and finished with a 1.56 goals against average and .755 save percentage. Through matches of Nov. 6, he ranks third in the ODAC in saves and fifth in saves per game (4.82). Campbell had a season-high 10 stops in Guilford's 1-0 league loss to Lynchburg October 21 . He made nine saves October 7 in a 2-0 setback to nationally ranked Washington and Lee. Campbell earned all-tournament honors at the season-opening Maryville (Tenn.) Nike Kick-Off Classic.
In four seasons, Campbell compiled 262 career saves, which ranks third in school history. He leaves with the Quakers' school record for lowest career goals against average (1.67) and compiled two of the eight lowest season goals against averages in school history.
First year head coach Jeff Bateson led the Quakers to a 5-11-1 record, 2-7 in the ODAC. Guilford missed the ODAC Tournament for the second time in seven years. Bateson expects 19 letter winners, including Meguid, to return in 2007.
