STALLINGS LEADS ROANOKE TO 3-0 MEN'S SOCCER WIN AT GUILFORD
Greensboro, NC (9/28/05) -- Elliott Stallings scored all three goals in visiting
Roanoke's 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer win at
Guilford Wednesday. Stallings, who leads the Maroons with eight goals this
season, tallied twice in the first half and once in the second half.
The Maroons are ranked sixth in this week's
adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III South Region
poll. They controlled play for most of the game and enjoyed a 16-9 advantage in
shots. Senior goalie Harper Thorsen made two saves in the shutout.
Guilford goalie Zane Campbell made five
saves for the Quakers before leaving the game in the second half when he
received a yellow card. Matt McCall made one save in the final 16:11 for
Guilford (4-3-3).
The Quakers are back in action Saturday (10/1)
against league-rival Eastern Mennonite at 1:00 p.m. The Maroons host ODAC-foe
Virginia Wesleyan Saturday (10/1) at 3:00 p.m.
