Men's Soccer Release (2005) - ODAC Preseason Poll - Guilford College

GUILFORD MEN'S SOCCER TEAM PICKED SIXTH IN ODAC POLL

Greensboro, NC (8/22/05) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer coaches tabbed Guilford College sixth in its preseason poll, the league office announced Monday. Defending ODAC champion Roanoke earned nine of a possible 10 first-place votes and the poll's top spot. Virginia Wesleyan claimed the remaining first-place vote and the poll's second slot.

Coach Liam Behrens starts his school-record ninth season on the Quakers' sidelines with 13 letter winners returning from last year's 9-7-4 unit that reached the ODAC Tournament semifinals for the third straight season. Four seniors graduated from the 2004 team, including all-region selections Matt Feraci '05 and Steffen Schollaert '05, who combined for 25 of Guilford's 47 goals last year. Sophomore forward Greg Haver tallied four goals and 10 points in his rookie campaign and is the club's top returning scorer. Senior defender Lenny Niedosik and junior goalkeeper Zane Campbell started 19 and 20 matches, respectively, in 2004 and anchor an experienced defense.

After home preseason scrimmages with Greensboro, Cape Fear (8/27) and Louisburg (8/30), Guilford officially kicks off the 2005 campaign against visiting Southern Virginia September 1 at Haworth Field.
