  • GUILFORD'S MIRANDA EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-ODAC SOCCER HONORS

Greensboro, NC (11/8/05) -- Guilford College senior Andres Miranda earned Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer honors Tuesday, according to a vote of the league's head men's soccer coaches. Freshman defender George Bowen received honorable mention laurels.

Randolph-Macon goalie Nick Warner and Roanoke defender Donny Smith shared the league's Player of the Year Award. Emory & Henry defender Elliot Anderson claimed the ODAC Rookie of the Year Award. Washington and Lee's Rolf Piranian won his seventh ODAC Coach of the Year prize and Eastern Mennonite's Adam Shank was named ODAC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Miranda, a 6-2, 170-pound forward, ranked second on the team and sixth in the league with a career-high 19 points on eight goals and three assists. He ranks seventh among the league's points per game leaders (1.06) and sixth in goals per game (0.50). Miranda occasionally played on the Quakers' back line in an effort preserve a lead or shut down a high-scoring opponent. He scored twice in a tie with Methodist and in a 3-2 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan. Miranda tallied two goals in ODAC matches, including the game-winner in Guilford's upset win at regionally ranked Randolph-Macon. A two-year starter, the team captain concludes his career with nine goals and four assists for 22 points in 40 matches.

Bowen, a 5-9, 160-pound defender, scored a goal in 17 appearances, including 14 starts. He helped Guilford record three shutouts and a 2.03 team goals against average. Bowen scored his first college goal in the Quakers' 5-0 nonleague win at Warren Wilson Sept. 10.

The pair helped coach Liam Behrens' Quakers to a 6-7-4 overall record (2-6-1 ODAC). Guilford missed the ODAC Tournament for the first time in six seasons, but is slated to return 22 letter winners, including Bowen, in 2006.
