GUILFORD'S RALLS LANDS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS
Greensboro, NC (11/4/04) -- Guilford College senior Brett Ralls received Second Team Academic All-District III honors Thursday. Ralls received the same honor from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in 2003.
The
all-district squads are comprised of men's soccer players from Division
II and III institutions in the five-state area from Virginia to Florida.
Nominees were starters or important reserves of sophomore academic
standing or above who maintained at least a 3.2 grade point average.
Ralls has
captained Guilford to a spot in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) semifinals for the third straight season. The center midfielder
has one goal and four assists for six points in 18 matches and earned a
spot on the 2004 John Hopkins Alumni Invitational All-Tournament team.
Guilford achieved a top-10 regional ranking and enjoyed a seven-match
unbeaten streak, the team's longest since 1986. A four-year starter, he
earned honorable mention All-ODAC laurels in 2002 and has 21 points (6g,
9a) in 79 career matches.
An eight-time
dean's list student, Ralls will graduate in December with a double major
in business management and accounting. He has been on Guilford's
Student-Athlete Honor Roll eight times and is a two-time Dana
Scholarship recipient for scholarship, character and leadership. Ralls
received the schools' Best Undergraduate Male Student-Athlete Award last
year and the 2003 Courtney Award in business management. He is a
four-time Academic All-ODAC honoree.
Coach Liam
Behrens' club is 9-6-4 and secured a berth in Saturday's (11/6) ODAC
Tournament semifinals against Lynchburg. Guilford earned the tourney's
third seed and upended sixth-seeded Washington and Lee last Saturday,
3-0, in the quarterfinal round. Top-seeded Roanoke College hosts the
semifinals and finals.
