- GUILFORD'S FERACI EARNS ALL-STATE MEN'S SOCCER HONORS
Greensboro, NC (1/20/05) -- Guilford's Matt Feraci earned a spot on the 2004 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division Men's Soccer Team, the organization announced Thursday.
The all-star unit is comprised of men's soccer players from North Carolina's NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. Sports information directors nominated student-athletes for the team, which was selected by NCCSIA members. The women's university division soccer squad was announced Monday. The women's college and men's university division teams will be released next week. NCCSIA was founded in 2002.
Feraci,
adds the all-state commendation to his list of credentials after an excellent
2004 season. He earned First Team All-South Region honors from the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) / Adidas All-America Committee
this fall and First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
recognition. The senior forward became the first Quakers' player to lead the
league in scoring with 42 points on a conference-best 19 goals and four assists
in 19 matches. He ranked 14th among 2004 NCAA Division III goals per match
leaders and 22nd in scoring with 2.33 points per match.
A two-time ODAC Player of the Week, Feraci enjoyed the finest offensive men's soccer campaign in Guilford's Division III history and had the program's second-highest season goal total. He enjoyed six multi-goal games, including a two-goal, two-assist showing in Guilford's 7-0 win over Averett. Feraci tallied at least one score in an ODAC-record eight consecutive matches from Sept. 12 to Oct. 2 and had seven goals in league contests. He joined the Quakers this fall after starting his college career at Division I Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State.
Feraci helped Coach Liam Behrens' Quakers to their third straight ODAC Tournament semifinal berth and a 9-7-4 overall record (5-1-3 ODAC). Guilford recorded a top-10 regional ranking and had a seven-match unbeaten streak, its longest since 1986. Behrens expects 17 returning letter winners in 2005.
