- GUILFORD PAIR SECURES REGIONAL SOCCER HONORS
Greensboro, NC (12/06/02) -- Guilford junior forward Tim Imafidon (Raleigh, NC/Wake Forest-Rolesville) earned first team All-South Region honors and junior defender T.J. Muse (Reidsville, NC/Southeast Guilford) was a third team selection, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) / adidas All-America Committee announced Friday. The announcement marks the first time in the Quakers' Division III history that two Guilford men's soccer players earned All-South honors.
A
third team all-region player last year, Imafidon (right) led
Guilford's scorers for the second year in a row with 24 points (10 goals, four
assists), the eighth-best total in school history. A two time All-Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) performer, Imafidon earned first team laurels
this fall and ranked sixth among the loop's scoring leaders with 1.33 points per
match. His 0.56 goals per match average stood fourth in the league. Imafidon scored
a league-high five game-winning goals and netted a career-best three tallies in
the Quakers' October 26 ODAC win at Eastern Mennonite. The team captain ranks
second in career scoring at Guilford with 67 points (29g, 9a) in 54 matches.
Muse
(left) anchored the Quakers' defense that ranked fourth in the ODAC
with 1.37 goals allowed per match. Guilford recorded eight shutouts in 2002,
including four in ODAC wins. A 2002 second team All-ODAC pick, Muse started
all 21 matches at center back and helped the Quakers yield their fewest goals
since 1987 (27).
Coach Liam Behrens' Quakers finished the program's best season since 1986 with an 11-6-2 record. Guilford matched a school standard with a 5-3-1 ODAC mark and reached the league tournament semifinals for the first time in school history. The Quakers expect 17 letter winners back for the 2003 season.
