Greensboro, NC (03/16/02) - Guilford recorded its first men's lacrosse shutout since 1985 with an 18-0 victory over Marietta Saturday in the opening round of the Guilford Lacrosse Tournament Saturday in the Armfield Athletic Center. The win advances the host Quakers (4-1) into the championship game against Mary Washington, a 12-5 winner over Wooster in Saturday's second contest.
The Guilford-Mary Washington game begins Sunday (03/17) at 2:30 p.m. in Guilford's Armfield Athletic Center. The consolation match between Marietta and Wooster starts Sunday at noon.

Sophomore midfielder Justin Blanchette (Westfield, MA/Westfield) scored three times and sophomore attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) tallied two goals and three assists for the Quakers. Four different players scored in a one-minute, 44-second span midway through the first quarter to help Guilford to a 5-0 lead. Blanchette, Miller and sophomore Won Hill (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) each scored twice in the Quakers' eight-goal second period that gave the hosts a 13-0 halftime edge.
Freshman goaltender Aaron Skiles (Weirton, WV/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) went the distance in goal and made six saves to give Guilford its first shutout since a 17-0 whitewash of Georgia Tech in the 1985 season opener. Junior Scott Sojda (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) made 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers (1-1).
