Guilford Falls to Oneonta State, 13-6
GREENSBORO, N.C. (2/28/09) - Freshman attackman Blair Hanson scored three goals in visiting Oneonta State's 13-6 nonconference men's lacrosse victory at Guilford College Saturday. The Red Dragons (1-1) jumped out to an 8-1 second-quarter lead and never trailed on a rainy and windy day in the Armfield Athletic Center.
Senior attackman Dennis Headrick added two goals and two assists for Oneonta. He was one of eight different Oneonta State goal scorers in the game's opening 25 minutes. Senior midfielder Troy Lapore's tally with 10:28 left in the second quarter capped the 8-1 outburst and helped the guests to a 10-4 halftime lead.
The Quakers (0-2) twice trimmed the deficit to five goals in the third quarter, the last time on senior midfielder Matt Meriwether's tally with 9:38 left in the period. Headrick scored his second goal to open the fourth-quarter scoring and then set up Hanson's third tally, which provided the game's final margin.
