York (Pa.) Takes 9-6 Men's Lacrosse Win at Guilford
Greensboro, N.C. (2/24/07) -- Kyle Henninger scored three goals, including a key insurance tally with 63 second left, in visiting York (Pa.) College's 9-6 lacrosse win at Guilford Saturday. The contest marked the season opener for both teams.
Henninger's man-up goal late in the first quarter gave the Spartans (1-0) a 3-0 lead, which grew to 4-0 on Henninger's goal 2:02 in the second quarter. Matt Meriwether got the Quakers on the board 75 seconds later on his first of two goals.
York (Pa.) opened a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter before Guilford rallied to make it a 7-5 game with 7:48 to play on Colin Davis' tally. After Mike Klingerman scored for York, Davis made it an 8-6 game with 1:58 left with a man-up goal.
Chris Norman contributed two goals and an assist for the Spartans, plus three ground balls. Pat Van Middelem and Chris Chappelle both added one goal and one helper. Chappelle had a team-high five ground balls and won three-of-six face-offs. Matt Keeler went the distance in goal and made 12 saves.
Davis and Meriwether led Guilford's offense with two goals apiece. Gates Benson and Kyle Boylan both picked up five ground balls. Andrew Vigne made 10 of the Quakers' 11 saves in goal.
The Quakers return to action Saturday (3/3) when they host Cabrini at 1:00 p.m. in Armfield Athletic Center.
