Guilford Downs Washington and Jefferson For First Win of Season

Salem, Va. (3/17/07) -- Dan Orr matched his career high with three goals in Guilford College's 9-6 nonconference lacrosse victory over Washington and Jefferson College Saturday afternoon at Salem High School. The Quakers (1-3) held off the Presidents' (1-4) second-half comeback for their first win of the year and ended an eight-game losing streak, dating back to last year.
Guilford opened a 7-2 halftime lead thanks to a six-goal second quarter. Orr and Brock Florence tallied twice in the period, including one of the Quakers' three extra-man goals.
The Presidents scored all four third-period tallies to make it a 7-6 game entering the final period. Chris Vogel notched his second goal of the game with 7:12 left in the period and Tim Huckestein drew Washington and Jefferson to within one off an assist by Zach Devilbiss.
Guilford turned back the rally and scored two extra-man goals in the fourth quarter, thanks to a goal and an assist by Orr. The Quakers' Todd Bochenek finished with a goal and three assists to share game-high scoring honors with Orr.
