BRYAN BORCHARD NAMED GUILFORD STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (3/14/06) -- Bryan Borchard scored two goals and three assists in Guilford's 11-7 men's lacrosse victory over Maritime Saturday to win the school's Student-Athlete of the Week Award Tuesday. The award is presented by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and includes competition from Mar. 6-12.
Borchard,
a 5-10, 160-pound senior midfielder, led all scorers in the nonconference game
played in Annapolis, MD. He scored both goals and had one assist during the
decisive 9-1 run the Quakers used to open the game. His five points in the game
match Guilford's highest single-game total through six games. Borchard
assisted on the Quakers' final two goals and added three assists in the victory.
Borchard five points, five goals and 10 points all rank second on the team, tops among midfielders. He also has 10 ground balls and leads the Quakers with 27 shots.
Coach Andrew Rowe's Quakers continue their five-game home stand March 25 against Oberlin in a nonconference game in Guilford's Armfield Athletic Center at 1:00 p.m.
Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Other recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
