TODD BOCHENEK WINS GUILFORD STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD
Greensboro, NC (4/10/06) -- Todd Bochenek scored nine points last Saturday in Guilford's first men's lacrosse win over Randolph-Macon since 1992 and earned the college's Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the Quakers' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) presents the weekly prize, which includes competition from April 3-10.
Bochenek,
a 5-7, 150-pound sophomore attackman, led all scorers in the Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) game played in Greensboro. He had a hand in seven of
the Quakers' final eight goals and scored the eventual game-winning tally with
6:45 left in Guilford's 13-12 win. He finished with three goals and six assists
for the 11th-best scoring day in Guilford history and the Quakers' most prolific
outing since 2004. His six assists rank fourth in school history and mark the
program's most since 2004.
Bochenek leads the Quakers with 27 points, one shy of his career high. His 10 goals and personal-best 17 assists also lead the team. Bochenek stands second among the ODAC's best with 1.89 assists per game and ranks seventh in points per game (3.00). He ranks seventh on the squad with 15 ground balls and second with 30 shots.
Coach Andrew Rowe's Quakers (4-5, 1-1 ODAC) conclude their five-game home stand April 12 against Washington and Lee in an ODAC game in Guilford's Armfield Athletic Center at 4:00 p.m.
Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Other recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities, leading student cheering sections at home contests and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
