QUAKERS FALL TO CROSS-TOWN RIVAL GREENSBORO, 16-5
Greensboro, NC (4/19/06) -- Visiting Greensboro raced to a 12-0 lead in
the third quarter en route to a 16-5 nonconference triumph at cross-town rival
Guilford Wednesday afternoon. The Pride improved to 7-6 with its third win in
a row, while the Quakers falls to 4-8 with their third straight loss.
Andrew Carey scored two of his four goals in the
first quarter and Neal McKinney netted pair in the opening 15 minutes to help
Greensboro grab a 7-0 lead. Matt Perry added a goal and two assists in the
opening-period barrage.
Extra-man goals by Ronnie Chase and McKinney
highlighted Greensboro's second quarter. The Pride scored on both man-up chances
in the frame and netted four extra-man goals in six chances in the game.
Guilford finally got on the board in the third
quarter when Matthew Conrad netted consecutive goals to make it a 12-2
game. Shaun Frisby and Carey tallied with less than a minute in the third
quarter to take a 16-3 edge into the final period.
Todd Bochenek's two fourth-quarter goals
provided the game's final margin.
Carey's four goals paced the Pride and Perry
finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Eight different players
scored for Greensboro, including Jason Momenthy and Rob Morgan, who both scored
twice. Corey Raina made five saves in the cage and did not allow a goal for
Greensboro. Mike Federaro finished the game and made six stops. Matt Schlegel
led the Pride with five ground balls.
Guilford's Andrew Vigne played most of the
first three quarters in goal and had nine saves plus four ground balls.
The Quakers are back in action Friday (4/21) at
Virginia Wesleyan.
