W&L MEN'S LACROSSE BREAKS OUT; DEFEATS GUILFORD 23-6
LEXINGTON, VA (4/20/05) -- The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee men's
lacrosse team broke out on the offensive end of the field with 13 different
players finding the net in a 23-6 victory over Guilford in ODAC men's lacrosse
action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Generals (9-3, 4-1) built a 7-2 halftime
advantage and never looked back in scoring their most goals since a 24-1 win
over the Quakers during the 2001 season.
Senior attackman Jack Murray led the way with one
goal and five assists, while senior attackman John Hyland and freshman attackman
Ned Rider each tallied four goals and one assist. Sophomore attackman
Grant Martin notched three goals, and sophomore midfielder Jeff Fuge and
freshman attackman Will Englehart added two goals apiece. Sophomore goalie Chris
Lalli played the first half in goal, making seven saves, while senior Pat Casey
played the final 30 minutes, posting three saves.
Guilford (4-8, 1-5) was paced by senior attackman
Matt Wagner's four goals and freshman attackman Todd Bochenek's
one goal and three assists. Freshman Andrew Vigne played the
initial 53:03 in goal, recording 16 saves.
Guilford finishes its season with trip to
cross-town rival Greensboro Wednesday (4/27) beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Hampden-Sydney
for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
