Men's Lacrosse Release (2005) - Rowe Named Head Coach - Guilford College

  • ROWE NAMED HEAD MEN'S LACROSSE COACH AT GUILFORD COLLEGE

Greensboro, NC (05/05/05) -- Guilford College promoted Andrew Rowe to its head men's lacrosse coaching position Thursday. He filled the post on an interim basis in January, after serving as the Quakers' assistant coach for the 2004 campaign.

"Andrew did a commendable job this spring, especially considering the lateness of his appointment," Guilford Athletic Director Marion Kirby said. "The team responded to his leadership and took some very positive steps, which we hope Andrew will build on down the road."

Rowe, Guilford's 12th head men's lacrosse coach, helped recruit many of this year's newcomers who contributed to the Quakers' 5-8 overall record and their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory in 12 years (a 9-8 win over Virginia Wesleyan April 9). Guilford also defeated cross-town rival Greensboro for the first time since 1996 and matched the program's highest win total since 1992.

A two-time honorable mention All-America pick by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), Rowe joined the Quakers' staff as John Burke's '88 top assistant two months after his graduation from Ohio Wesleyan in 2003. He helped Guilford to a 5-9 mark in his first year and took over the Quakers' program on an interim basis in January 2005 after Burke resigned to return to his family and business opportunities in California. Rowe scored 100 career goals and helped Ohio Wesleyan to three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) titles and two NCAA Division III playoff berths in his four years. The St. Louis, MO, native played in the 2003 STX/USILA North-South All-Star Game and was a two-time First Team All-NCAC pick. He grew up near Rochester, NY, and starred scholastically at Penfield High School.

Rowe expects 22 letter winners back from his 2005 unit, plus another solid recruiting class, in 2006.
