Greensboro, NC (2/25/05) -- Senior attackman Matt Wagner matched his career high with six goals in Guilford's 17-3 men's lacrosse win over visiting Manhattanville Friday in the Armfield Athletic Center. Wagner added two assists for a career-high eight points in the game.

The Quakers (1-1) netted the first seven goals before Manhattanville's Jim Seymour got the Valiants on the board with his first of two scores. Wagner tallied three goals and two assists in the opening quarter, including a nifty behind-the-back goal from eight yards out that gave the Quakers a 3-0 lead.

While Guilford dominated the game, Manhattanville had some good scoring opportunities, including six man-up chances. Guilford goalies Andrew Vigne, Andrew Bond and Ian McPhail combined to stop 19 of Manhattanville's 22 shots on goal. Bond made 11 stops in just over 22 minutes, one shy of his career high.

Nine different Quakers found the back of the net. In addition to Wagner's eight points, rookie Todd Bochenek scored three goals and an assist. Classmate Preston Gilbert netted the first goal of his collegiate career and dished out four assists. Senior midfielder Ed Massello scored two goals and an assist. Senior defenseman Drew Wit led the Quakers with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Manhattanville goalie Anthony Cerretani (Waverly, NY) made nine saves and had a game-high seven ground balls.

Guilford returns to action next Saturday (3/5) at Marymount. The Valiants resume their southern swing at Division II Queens Saturday (2/26).
