  • GUILFORD's MIller Named ODAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week

Greensboro, NC (03/28/04) -- Guilford senior Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week Award, the league announced Monday. Miller becomes the Quakers' first recipient of the weekly prize since the Quakers joined the league in 1992.

A 5-8, 180-pound attackman, Miller totaled seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in the Quakers' 1-2 week. He scored three goals and five assists in Guilford's 14-12 March 28 win over Wittenberg, which ended the Quakers' three-game losing streak. Miller had five ground balls in the win and netted an important insurance goal with 59 seconds left in the game. He had four goals and two assists the day before in Guilford's 13-10 league loss to Randolph-Macon. Miller scored two assists and had two ground balls against Greensboro March 24.

Miller leads Guilford's scorers with 44 points and 27 assists. He leads the league in points (5.50) and assists per game (3.38) and ranks seventh in goals per game (2.12). His 17 goals stand second to teammate Matt Wagner's 26 tallies. Earlier this year Miller matched the Quakers' single-game scoring record with 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in a 23-4 triumph at Shenandoah March 13. Miller occupies third place on the Quakers' career assists chart (94) and stands eighth with 87 career goals.

Miller has helped first-year head coach John Burke's team to a 4-4 overall record (0-1 ODAC). The Quakers' four victories exceed last season's total. Guilford closes out a six-game homestand this week with contests against Oberlin (3/31) and nationally ranked league-foe Hampden-Sydney (4/3).
