GUILFORD's MALLONEE EARNS All-ODAC Lacrosse HoNORS
Greensboro, NC (05/05/04) -- Guilford College senior Rob Mallonee (Baltimore, MD/Sandy Spring Friends) became the Quakers' first All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse selection since 1996, the league announced Wednesday. The ODAC's seven head men's lacrosse coaches selected the all-star teams. Mallonee earned Second Team All-ODAC honors.
A
6-3, 210-pound defender, Mallonee started all 14 games on Guilford's back
line and was named the Quakers' Most Valuable Defender this season. A team
captain, he ranked third on the team in ground balls (46) and second in caused
turnovers (20). Mallonee scored his lone goal of 2004 in the Quakers'
23-4 win at Shenandoah March 13. He had season highs of seven ground balls and
four caused turnovers in Guilford's 16-9 triumph over visiting Oberlin March 31.
Mallonee came to Guilford as an attackman, but switched to defense as a sophomore and started every game there for the next three seasons. A four-year starter, he concludes his Guilford career with 24 points (15 goals, 9 assists) and 159 ground balls in 55 career contests.
Coach John Burke's Quakers posted a 5-9 overall record, 0-6 in the ODAC, in Burke's first season as head coach. Guilford graduates five seniors, including Mallonee, from the 2004 club, but returns 16 letter winners for 2005.
