Strong Named ODAC Player of the Week
Greensboro, N.C. (11/19/07) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College's Ben Strong as its first Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday. He has captured the ODAC prize for the ninth time in his career.
Strong, a 6-11 senior center, was selected for the honor after totalling 29 points, 16 rebounds, and a career-high eight assists, leading both teams in all categories, in a 87-52 win over Villa Julie. In an exhibition contest Nov. 5 against the University of South Carolina, Strong had 27 points and a team-leading 15 rebounds.
DIII News, a leading publication covering Division III basketball, named Strong as its NCAA Division III Preseason Player of the Year. He is ranked first among the publication’s Top 24 All-Americans, which is comprised of three players from each of the eight regions. Last year, Strong received the National Player of the Year Award from D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Coach Tom Palombo's preaseason fourth-ranked Quakers (1-0) seek their second win as they travel to Hanes Gym to play cross-town rival Greensboro College Wednesday, November 28. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
