Strong Wins Second ODAC Honor of 2006-07

Greensboro, N.C. (12/4/06) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College's Ben Strong as its Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday. Strong, a 6-11 junior center, also received Guilford's Student-Athlete of the Week Award, which is sponsored by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This is the second time this year that Strong has received both awards.

Ben StrongStrong won his fifth career ODAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Award after averaging 23.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game in the Quakers' 2-0 week. He scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds in Guilford's 78-74 overtime win over Greensboro Nov. 29. Strong led all scorers with 24 points, 11 boards and three assists in the 102-80 victory over league-rival Lynchburg Dec. 1.

Strong has had double-doubles in each of his last three games and leads the ODAC in scoring (25.0 ppg.) and blocks (2.25 bpg.). He stands second in the league in rebounds (10.3 rpg.) and eighth in free-throw percentage (.800).

Coach Tom Palombo's Quakers (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) seek their fifth straight win Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Hampden-Sydney College. The team returns home to host Roanoke in the Ragan-Brown Field House Saturday (12/9) at 4:00 pm.

Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
