Snipes Named Student-Athlete of the Week
Greensboro, N.C. (2/7/07) -- Jordan Snipes was chosen as Guilford's Student-Athlete of the Week Award Tuesday. The award is sponsored by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). This is the second time this year that Snipes has received this honor.
Snipes, a senior guard, helped Guilford to a 2-0 week on the road during conference play, averaging 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 56.7 percent from the floor, including nine-of-17 from the three-point line in two games. He hit a school-record nine three-pointers in his 39-point performance in the 95-70 win over Lynchburg Feb. 3. Prior to hitting nine-of-14 from behind the arch against Lynchburg, Snipes was 0-11 from three-point range in the past three games. Snipes had nine points, six boards and two assists in the 62-61 barn burner over league-rival Washington and Lee Jan. 31.
Snipes has had three games this season in which he has scored over 30 points. He ranks fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in scoring with 18.3 ppg and needs 14 points to reach 1,000 in his career.
Coach Tom Palombo's Quakers (16-3, 10-3 ODAC) have compiled the program's most wins since the 1988-89 season. They remained in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll for the fourth straight week, earning the number 24 position. The team returns home to host Hampden-Sydney in the Ragan-Brown Field House Wednesday (2/7) at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from the game will be donated to the V Foundation for cancer research.
Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
