GUILFORD'S STRONG NAMED ODAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro,
NC (12/5/05) -- Guilford College sophomore Ben Strong was tabbed for
the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Award for the week ending Dec. 3, the league announced Sunday. Strong is
the Quakers' first student-athlete to receive the honor this season.
Strong, a 6-10, 220-pound center, averaged 25.0 points and 7.5 rebounds with a .741 field-goal percentage (20-27) in two games last week, helping Guilford to its first 2-0 start to the ODAC season since 2000-01. He scored a career-high 24 points with a team-best eight rebounds Nov. 30 in the Quakers' record-setting 147-136 victory at league-rival Emory & Henry, in which Guilford racked up its highest point total in the program's 92-season history.
Three days later, Strong bested his career-high for the second straight game with 26 points and added a team-best seven boards in the Quakers' 79-64 victory over Lynchburg. He poured in 17 points in the second half thanks to a seven-of-eight performance from the field.
Coach Tom Palombo's squad (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) has won three straight games and four of its last five, the lone blemish being a 90-72 setback at Embry-Riddle (FL). The Quakers return to action Monday (12/5) at Division I Elon at 7:00 p.m.
