GUILFORD'S 28-2 RUN CARRIES QUAKERS TO 71-55 WIN OVER LYNCHBURG MEN
LYNCHBURG, VA (1/21/06) -- Guilford College held the Lynchburg College men's
basketball team scoreless over the last 11:39 in the first half, and overcame a
12 point deficit to defeat LC 71-55 Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) action from Turner Gymnasium.
The
Hornets jumped out to a 21-9 lead, thanks to eight points from senior guard Matt
Sweeney. Guilford's defense tightened, going on a 28-2 run over the next 15:03
to take control of the game. Lynchburg cut the lead to eight three times, but
could get no closer.
Andy Albright scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, while
Sweeney finished with 13 points for Lynchburg. The Hornets shot just 29% from
the field, including 10-36 (27%) in the second half.
Jordan Snipes paced the Guilford (9-8/7-3 ODAC) attack, hitting six of
his 12 shots, finishing with 19 points. Ben Strong had 14 points and nine
rebounds, while Eric Belkoski ended with 10 points and five boards for
the visitors.
Guilford looks for its sixth consecutive win Wednesday (1/25) hosting ODAC foe
Hampden-Syndey. All gate receipts from the game will go to the V Foundation.
The game tips off at 7:00pm.
