GUILFORD DOWNS LYNCHBURG IN HOME OPENER, 79-64

Sophomore center Ben Strong (left) scored 17 of his career- and
game-high 26 points in the second half in Guilford's 79-64 Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win over visiting Lynchburg Saturday. The
contest marked Guilford's home opener and raised its overall record to 4-1 (2-0
ODAC). Lynchburg, playing its second game in less than 24 hours, drops to 0-8
(0-2 ODAC).
Strong, who made seven of eight second-half shots, scored on three straight
Guilford possessions early in the second period to expand the Quakers' 28-24
halftime lead to 41-32 with 15:07 left. The nine-point deficit was the Hornets'
smallest for the rest of the game as Guilford made nearly 60 percent of its
second-half field goals. Quakers' sophomore guard Ray Edmond scored nine
of his 11 points off the bench in the second half.
Senior Patrick Prior totaled 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds for
Lynchburg, which lost at Division I Liberty Friday night, 84-50. Junior center
Peter Vasiliou added 11 points and senior guard Andy Albright chipped in 10
points and two steals. Lynchburg's leading scorer, junior guard Pete Manos, Jr.,
scored eight points on three-of-15 shooting from the floor.
Guilford sophomore point guard Caleb Kimbrough contributed 14 points and
four rebounds. Freshman forward George Neville shared team-high
rebounding honors with seven. Guilford enjoyed a 51-34 edge in rebounds and
converted 17 offensive boards in to 19 points.
The Quakers visit Division I Elon Monday (12/5) at 7:00 p.m. before resuming
ODAC play at Washington and Lee Wednesday (12/7) at 7:00 p.m. Lynchburg ends a
three-game road trip Wednesday (12/7) at league-foe Hampden-Sydney at 7:00 p.m.
