SNIPES SHOOTS GUILFORD PAST EASTERN MENNONITE, 77-70
GREENSBORO, NC (1/14/06) -- Guilford's Jordan Snipes netted a
game-high 31 points in the Quakers' 77-70 men's basketball triumph over Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Eastern Mennonite Saturday.
Snipes carried Guilford to its second straight victory with his team season-high 31 points. He scored 17 points in the second half, which saw the Quakers break open a two-point game midway through the period with a 13-1 run. Snipes scored five points during the spurt, including his fourth and final three-pointer of the game.
Guilford's shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch helped Eastern Mennonite
trim a 15-point deficit with 1:55 left down to seven with 56 seconds remaining.
Snipes made three-of-four free throws and Caleb Kimbrough added two free
throws in the final minute to preserve the win.
Guilford's Ben Strong notched his first college
double-double with 19 points and a game- and career-high 10 rebounds. He also
added three of his team's seven blocks. The Quakers shot 66.7 percent from the
floor in the second half and 55.3 percent for the game. Guilford's defense
limited the Royals to 35 percent field-goal shooting.
Jason Sager paced five Royals in double-figure scoring with
15 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Jason Lentz added 13 points and seven
boards before fouling out. Brad Parkes finished with 13 points and five
rebounds.
Guilford's men host league-rival Bridgewater Sunday (1/15) at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Mennonite plays at Emory & Henry Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
