Associate Head Coach Matt Parke

Associate Head Coach Matt ParkeMatt Parke is in his second tour of duty at Guilford, this time as the Quakers' associate head coach. In 2006-07, his third year at Guilford, the Quakers went 24-5 and reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. Parke helped two Quakers earn All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recognition, including national player of the year Ben Strong '08.

In Parke's first two seasons at Guilford, he assisted Butch Estes’ teams from 2001-03 and helped make the Quakers competitive as seen by the school's first two ODAC Tournament bids after a five-year absence. He left Guilford in 2003 to join Dave Odom’s '65 men’s basketball staff at the University of South Carolina as a graduate assistant coach. While earning his master’s degree in business administration, Parke helped South Carolina to a 2004 NCAA Tournament berth and the 2005 National Invitational Tournament title. He moved to the University of Alabama for 2005-06 and served as the director of basketball operations on coach Mike Gottfried’s staff for the NCAA Tournament-bound Crimson Tide.

A native of Bangor, Maine, Parke earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Colby College in 1997. He made his first move to Greensboro in 1999 and spent two years as a coach and instructor at Oak Ridge Military Academy. After posting a 3-18 record in his first season, Oak Ridge went 17-6 in 2000-01 and won the school’s first Triad Athletic Conference Tournament title.

Assistant Coach Deonta McChesterAssistant Coach Deonta McChester

Deonta McChester joined Guilford's staff in 2007 upon graduating from Keuka College in upstate New York. He served as a student assistant on coach George Wunder's staff as a senior and helped the Storm to a 13-13 record. McChester played in 15 games as a reserve guard as a junior when the team went 16-10. He started his college career as a student-athlete at Corning Community College from 2003-05. A native of Flint, Mich., McChester also serves as a professional residence hall director and intramurals coordinator at Guilford.

 

 

 

Student Assistant Nick PendergraftStudent Assistant Nick Pendergraft

Senior Nick Pendergraft starts his second season as a student assistant coach on Guilford's staff. He played with the Quakers' junior varsity team as a freshman and appeared in one varsity contest in 2005. The exercise and sport science major earned a spot on Guilford's Fall 2004 Student-Athlete Honor Roll. He lettered three seasons for coach Jim Pappas' basketball team at Northwood High School and earned All-Chatham County honors as a point guard. The Pittsboro, N.C., resident helped Northwood to the 2003 Mid-State 2-A Conference title.
