Matt Parke begins his 6th season coaching at Guilford and 13th year of coaching basketball. Parke began his coaching career as a head coach at Derby Academy in Hingham, MA and then Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, NC. After posting a 3-18 record in his first season at Oak Ridge, the team went 17-6 and won the school’s first Triad Athletic Conference Tournament title in 2001. From there he moved on to coach at the collegiate level with Butch Estes here at Guilford for two seasons. He left Guilford in 2003 to join Dave Odom’s ’65 staff at the University of South Carolina and then to the University of Alabama with Mark Gottfried. Parke helped both schools make appearances in the NCAA tournament as well as winning the NIT Championship in 2005 with the Gamecocks.

Parke currently serves as the Associate Head Coach for the Quakers where he has helped the team to the past three DIII NCAA tournaments, including reaching last year’s Final Four. The teams have compiled an overall record of 74-16 and have finished the season ranked nationally each year at #7, #12 and #8 in the final NCAA poll. They are one of only three teams in Division III to accomplish this feat.

A native of Bangor, ME Parke earned his bachelors degree in economics from Colby College and later a M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina. He is engaged to be married to Guilford College athletic trainer Elizabeth Dornbos in the summer of 2010.
