Golf Stands in 10th Place After First Round of Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. (9/25/09) -- Sam Ryder shot a six-under-par 66 to lead the field at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate and guide his Stetson Hatters to the top spot after the first round of play.

Dusty RobertsGuilford College sophomore Dusty Roberts shot a one-under 71 and paced the Quakers five contestants. The Quakers shot 294 (+6) as a team and sit in 10th place at the 16-team event. Guilford senior Brian Creghan shot 73 (+1) and is in 34th in the 88-student field.

David McAndrew and Micah Jacobsen both shot a 69 to sit in a tie for fifth while  teammate Gabe Costa posted a 70 to help the Hatters post a 274 for the day and earn a five-stroke advantage.  Zach Capps shot a 68 and sits in fourth to lead the Wofford Terriers to the second-place spot. Garrett Medeiros shot a 69 while teammates Mark Joye and Mike McKenzie posted a 70 and 72, respectively, for the Terriers. James Madison sits in third  with a 280 after Mike Smith and Chris Wellde each carded a 69 and sit tied for fifth to pace the Dukes while Ryan Vince and Chad Mozingo both posted a 71 (T-19th). Victor Hielte tallied a first-round score of 69 to lead Campbell to the fourth-place spot with a score of 282. Mitch Gray, Matt Moot and Zak Drescher each tallied a 71 for Campbell. George Mason sits in fifth place with a 286 after Marshall Tinsley posted a five-under-par 67 to sit in a tie for second. Casey Thompson posted a 70 while Josh Apple and Greg Brouse posted a 74 and 75, respectively, for the Patriots. Villanova’s Brian Colbert sits in a tie with Tinsley at second after posting a 67.

The second round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate will begin at 8:30 on Saturday, September 26.
