Latimer Named ODAC Golfer of the Week

Peter LatimerGreensboro, N.C. (10/28/09) -- Guilford College senior Peter Latimer won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. Latimer also received the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Latimer won the ODAC prize for the ninth time in his career after leading the Quakers to a second- place finish at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational in Oakwood, Ga, Oct. 19-20. Latimer's second-place individual finish came off of a five-under par performance that saw him break 70 for the first two times this season. He recorded rounds of 69 and 68, which gave him his new low round for the season and his career-low 36-hole total (137). The performance marked his second straight top-five finish and lowered his stroke average to a team-best 72.3 through 10 rounds.

Guilford, ranked fourth in the Oct. 14th Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Division III Poll, placed second at the 16-team Oglethorpe Invitational with a two-day total of 580. The Quakers finished behind top-ranked Methodist University, but beat third-ranked Oglethorpe University by 21 strokes. Guilford closes out its fall schedule Oct. 26-27 at the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial in Greensboro, N.C.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
